Development times for original, discontinued AGFA APX 100

Anybody has the development times for the original APX 100? I have about a dozen 35mm films exposed between 10 and 15 years ago that I'm finally getting to. Massive Dev Chart only has time for the new AgfaPhoto APX, which isn't the same.

I did find the development times for Rodinal from the old AGFA Rodinal chart, but I'm not sure that's what I want to use. Times for DD-X, ID-11, D-23 or Ilfotec HC would be helpful.

I shot APX 100 at ASA 20 and developed in D-76 1+1 to the C.I. that I wanted. I can give you MY development time & temp, but I don't think my approach will help you. You can probably find what AGFA recommended on the WEB.

I like times in the 10 min range, Paterson tank , agitating at the start and then 1/min

D76 (same as ID11?)
ASA stock 1+1

Here is a sheet from Agfa from the mid 1990's You can treat D76 and ID11 as the same, as well as HC-110 and Ilfotec HC.

I expose APX 100 at EI 50 and have these times:

D-76 7.5min
D-76 1:1 9.6min
DK-50 1:1 6.5min
HC-110B 5.75min
PMK Pyro 13min

Times for D-23 and Pyrocat-HD should be similar to D-76

This assumes agitation every 30 seconds except for PMK which is every 15 seconds


This arrangement increases shadow detail and tones down highlights slightly to keep them in bounds. For each N+-, I increase/decrease EI 1/3 stop, and development 20%. It's not a perfect arrangement, but a pretty fair starting point.

I still have 2 bulk rolls of the 100 left and quite a few of the 25 in 120. not sure why I have been saving them, but found them when I had to box up all my film for a housing move. have way more than I really should, but thats what film hoarders do!

I have a fair bit of 4x5 and a few bricks of 120 in deep freeze.

I am mostly using Double X and Fomapan 200 for all things 35mm these days. The Double X, especially, just loves Pyro based development, whether conventional or standing.

Was my favorite 100 ISO film in the early 2000s.

I miss Agfapan APX 100 even more than Plus-X... and I say this as a Kodak-centric guy for 60 years!

APX 100 was a marvelous film: fine grain and wide latitude, plus a unique "luminous" look. It was a factory-loaded Minox film in the mid-90s when I began my second round of Minoxing, and I shot lots before I started slitting 35mm film and reloading Minox cassettes.



This scan is from a bordered 4x5 print of an APX 100 negative shot in 1995 with a Minox IIIs (using guestimated exposure). That's some outstanding fine grain and sharpness from a pinkynail-sized negative on a 100-speed film that's NOT T-Max or Delta!

As I was looking for my eclipse filters last night I came across a blast form the past...
I used to buy AgfaPan in bulk, I kept one or two of the tin cans to store other film.

It's not in the developers you listed, but on Foma's fomadon excel (Xtol clone) package Agfa APX 100 is listed at 9.5min.
I'm reasonably sure it's for the old original APX as there's other discontinued film in the sheet, such as rollei retro 100.
