To me it looks like the roll was taken from the camera in bright light and not tightly wound. Light leaked past the paper edges.

This sounds quite plausible to me - the backing paper just kept moving when I popped the back open once the film was finished, it didn't stay put.

The picture that I posted was not taken in bright sunlight, from what I can recall.

What I will do is put some friction on the take up roll and wind on the film advance to tighten up the paper before taking it out of the camera. Then hold it snugly while licking the tape to hold it all together. Then into a dark pocket it goes. Of course you want to get in a dark or shaded place before popping the back open.

I bought some Rollei film that comes in nice little plastic tubes that are great for holding the exposed film.

Shot a test roll and dev'd it in the same solution + same fixer (decided to reuse the dev, it's too expensive!), same film and same camera. Haven't examined them closely, but the negatives seem good. I didn't change anything. Glad to see a nice roll, but still no idea what must've happened to the first!
