developing paper with used d-76 1:1

well, it was time to dispose of a batch of used d-76 1:1 and figured what the heck, might as well give it a try
development times are long, 5 - 15 minutes
leave it in for 5 as a minimum, 10 average, 15 if necessary
couldn't tell difference as to either d-76 or polycontrast, except for dev. speed
will scan later and compare
paper was MG IV RC gloss

Film developers often make good print developers.
Generally they are slow because of their low activity.
A big speed up can be had by adding some
sodium carbonate. Dan

It will make a good 'soft working' developer, allowing you to overexpose the paper and pull it early (as little as 2 minutes with RC) to try and get a lower contrast grade. Not much use with MG papers, except that Ilford's MGIV doesn't do a very good job at contrasts less than 1 and a soft developer may work better than a very low contrast filter.
