I have been reloading 110 cartridges with cut to size arista premium contrast 3 paper and using it as film wanting to put it on the developing tank reel. My question is can I use film developer to develop it and how? I ask this because I have been tray developing this 14 inch roll of paper with good results but would like to use film developers like hc110 and sprint or diafine. I'm just trying to figure out how long I would have to develop it in each assuming it is ISO six. I then scan these at super high resolution as a reflective document and get good results. Cliff

hi cliff

i have never used a film developer to process paper negatives.
i usually use spent / used print developer to help control the contrast
and because it is paper, i develop by inspection under the safelight ..

why don't you develop a few sheets of this paper you want to put in your 110 camera
but develop it in a open tray rather than a film tank, you'll have a better idea when
the paper is processed to completion, and you will be able to enhance your development
if the paper is over / under exposed.

You can run some tests, but I would use a very dilute version of Dektol (d-72) to process as film. The dilution gives longer dev times allowing for more control. This can be done under safelight and developed by inspection in a tray. I would [assume] any film developer would work. I've developed paper in Pyrocat-HD with excellent results.

Why not dump the paper dev in the tank? You can't see it develop but you'll have your dilution and times, roughly.

Film developers will produce very low contrast when used to develop papers.

Film developers will produce very low contrast when
used to develop papers.

I've not found that to be the case. Testing D23 using extended
developing time has shown the same results as those of Ansco
120 though D23 is minus any of 120's accelerating carbonate.

cliff - do you have a darkroom available to do time/temp variable testing ?

i can't really see any benefits of tank processing paper negatives
unless there isn't an available darkened room with a red light ...
or all the possible kinks are taken out of the system.
