Developer suggestion please

I just shot my first roll ever of Agfa APX 100 and the only developers I have on hand are Ilfosol S and HC110. I know that many people say that APX 100 with Rodinal is the ideal but given the 2 choices I currently have which should I go with? To be honest I haven't been overly impressed with Ifosol on Delta 400 or Delta 400 but I have no idea what to expect with APX 100.

Maybe Delta 100 as well? That aside and IIRC Ilfosol is
more so aimed at lower speed films. Dan

Oops, yeah I meant Delta 400 and Delta 100. You would go with the Ilfosol S then?

Maybe if you posted a clearer descriptive title, you would have more responses. "Developer suggestion please" is pretty broad, when it turns out that you are really asking which of two particular developers is best for one particular film.

Dear David,

Yeah, that and, "Why bother answering, because there'll be plenty advocating the one, and plenty advocating the other, and the only way to find out which suits you is TRY IT!"

The answer would be similar if it were 200 developers, though at least at that point you might get a better indication of which are more successful statistically.

If you have Ilfosol S, use that. It's my favorite developer for FP4+, which is in many ways similae to APX100.

At the moment I'm using Ilfotec HC, but that's because I have half a pallet of it to use...

HC-110 highly diluted (around 1+100) is also a good choice. Dig around the forums or the Massive Dev Chart for times.

I've heard that Ilfosol expires very quickly once opened and mine's been open about a month. I have an unopened bottle of HC-110 here so I think I'll try that with a high dilution as suggested.

You already have 2 developers and both are good ones. I would try both..Evan Clarke
