I love these threads ! and there always seems to be someone who was deeply involved somehow with the mechanisms being discussed !
I hope that this information is helpful.

thanks Bob for setting me straight about the Pan-x, I had a feeling maybe it was the mock up that was Pan x and everything was tweaked or something like that, or maybe it was, as others have said, that it was a low asa film so people automatically pointed fingers and said " Pan x " ...

Like many things Panatomic-X and Plus-X Films had reputations better than reality.

Isn't that the way everything is
Like the reason everyone buys a Verito ( so they can be like Hurrell ) or a Hassy ( so they can be like Platon ) or a Hat, Cigar, Speed Graphic and Flash bulbs ( so they can be like Felig ) or a Skateboard (so they be like Tony Hawk ) or a Ferarri ( so they can be like Magnum PI  ) and .. ... and sometimes they shoot like its nobody's business.
Stay well !
John

I did not know about hype, reputations, or all that...not much of it around when/where I started photography. The Art Dept Photo program was not very techie...art is what mattered. But somehow I found that 120 Panatomic-X in Microdol-X 1:3 printed lovely to 15"x15" in the late 70s.
