I usually use LC29 but the shop was out of stock so had to buy HC110. I have several 5x4 sheets to develop of FP4+ @ 100 and Fomapan Classic 100 @ 80. The HC110 is the European version so already diluted e.g. dilution b is indicated at 1:9. Anybody have times for these two films at dilution H as I want to mix up one batch. Also it will be continuous agitation in a Paterson Orbital.

If I recall correctly, and I'm pretty sure that I do, LC-29 is about the same as the "European" version of HC-110. Ilfotech HC is equivalent to the US version of HC-110 - the thick syrupy stuff that's a real pain to measure accurately. So I'd start with the same times you've been using all along. It won't be off by much, if anything.

Thanks for the reply. I noticed on the Ilford website that the time for Dilution B was around 9 minutes which seems to be a tad on the long side. However for the Fomapan dilution B is not recommended as it falls under 5 minutes dev time. If I have to then I'll develop the FP4 at dilution B and probably try the Foma at around 7 1/2 minutes at dilution H but I'd rather just mix up one batch at dilution H.

According to the massive dev chart FP4 develops at 4 minutes (Dil B). This is very hard to control, developing hc110 in under 5 minutes so you may want to look around for something that requires a longer developing time. No recommendations for the Fomopan.

Christopher, I also had a look at the chart and it gave me 7-9 minutes for dilution B @125 and 4.5 for dilution A.
I ran the negs through last night using 7min 20secs for the FP4+ at dilution B and 8 minutes for the Fomapan 100 at dilution H. I've got to do some contacts but they look a bit dense at first glance. However the content had a very wide range so it may be slight overexposure.

I think Fomapan and HC110 is bad combination, there is a reason why it does not show up in the Massive Development Chart.

Try Rodinal for both FP4 and Fomapan and I think you will love the results.

I used just for a test once Fomapan 100 with Ilfords DDX and got great results. So much so that I now use DDX for everything even though it's a bit more in cost than most developers.

Agreed on the HC110. Just.not.lovely. Clumpy, ugly grain and weird contrast.

I have been using HC110 with foma 100 (arista edu ultra 100) and I like the results. I use 1:100 dilution, constant agitation for the first 30 sec., then one inversion every three minutes, for a total of 18 min. I also get great results at 1:50 for 7 min. with normal agitation.

i disagree!

i think foma and hc110 give excellent results. i use:

dil h for 9 min at 68 degrees constant agitation for the 1st min and then every 45 sec after that.

dil g for 18 min at 68 constant agitation for the 1st min and then every 3rd min.

I have recently changed to DD-X too. It seems good for everything that I use.

The extra cost though means that I make sure I have two films on the reel when I am developing now.
