Yeah, I've done that too - 1+100, agitate for the first 30 seconds, then let it sit for an hour or so. A couple of times, it gave me noticeably uneven development with 120 film so I abandoned the effort. A two stop push doesn't do much to help those empty shadows though, and I get a little more with XTOL and a lot less grain.
The best I've been able to do for a two stop push with 400TX has been with Diafine. That developer really does help out quite a bit in the shadows and keeps the contrast down to manageable levels. I've never tried it with 320TXP, so I can't say for sure how well it would work. If I needed the push, I'd choose 400TX 'cause I know what to expect from it. I'd say it was worth a shot though, if you are so inclined.
