Detroit Area Gathering, November or December 2010

Thank you, Jeff and Eva for your hospitality. I had a great time meeting everyone and sharing stories. You two make great hosts.

Sorry I had to pass on the enlarger, I really wanted it, my wife thought not until I can find a way to store it and move it in and about. Maybe next time.

Let me know what your friend things of my 645 back. Hope to get it tuned up for the frigid times in February at Hocking Hills. Hope you can all come now.

Hey there guys, got linked over this way from the Large Format Photography Forum, and if you guys don't mind a noob with an 8x10 running around with you next time around, I'd love to join in!

These are wonderful people. They have put up with me for years, so I'm sure that they will roll out the carpet for you. I've just moved to 8x10 this week myself. It is pretty exciting.

Cheers, and welcome to APUG,

I had to say thanks again to Jeff and Eva for allowing me to tag along at the last minute. It was a great time, I am grateful for the experience and for meeting a lot of new friends. And also to Daniel and Silke for their vast knowledge of the area. Totally enjoyable. And to Vinny for carting me around for the day, your company was great. So who has some shots to post?

Is this Charlie?

Hi Dan,

Yes this is Charlie Wheelihan.

When I signed up for apug, I wasn't sure if people generally went with "user names" or real names...

Now that I see that many use real names I will probably try and figure out how to change it.

It was great to meet you and talk over XX and Mexican food.

When I signed up here I used a screen name, and after awhile got tired of it and went back to the name my mother thought was proper. Sean can change your screen name if you ask him.

Dan,

Yeah, I don't know if it was just me but the XX was tasting mighty good!

I did send a request to see about changing my user name, for now I will try to remember to sign my posts.

Nothing like Dos Equis to wash down a mouthful of asbestos!

Thanks Jeff and Eva for a great weekend. I enjoyed seeing old friends, making new ones, and finally putting a face with names I had heard. I am looking forward to seeing the results of the weekend, either in scanned previews or prints next time we meet up. I will pick up my 4x5 film today!

One thing I forgot to mention over the weekend was that I had a bunch of 2010 expiration date Kodachrome left. If anybody here wants some for free, let me know, and I'll mail it to you. I can only use a few rolls before the end of the year, so I thought I'd offer it here before I post it for free on the main classified board.

thanks, Jeff

Very big thanks to Jeff and Eva for their wonderful hospitality and for getting us all together for that weekend. It was great, spending time with old friends and meeting new crazy photographers
Thanks to Charlie for the best coffee I ever had in the US.
I am looking forward to see everybody’s work from the weekend.
Jeff, I would love to get a roll.

Silke - I sent you an email. thanks, Jeff

Silke,

I am happy that you enjoyed the coffee!! I love to find people who appreciate good coffee and can tell a difference. I got my wife hooked on fresh roasted coffee about four years ago, now she roasts it at home more often than I do, which makes it about 2-3 times a week now.

Hope to see everyone again (I'll make sure I bring more coffee!)

Charlie

I started roasting my own coffee a year or so ago, and it is a real step down to have to suffer through drip-brewed coffee made from God only knows how long ago roasted beans of suspect lineage.

Dan,

Over the years I have grown to accept some things about myself (a few of them may even be positive) one of them is that I tend to throw myself fully into something I enjoy. I got into coffee roasting about 7 years ago and now have upgraded and am on my third roaster (finally got a good one that lasts). I also couldn't just settle on a basic drip brewer because it didn't cover the coffee well enough (or get the water hot enough) so I finally spent the money for a Technivorm. To think, some people just drink coffee ...

Large Format Photography has become my new focus and I am trying to learn and improve my skills as much as possible (there is lots of room for improvement). I have found there is a lot to it and want to learn about it all. I really want to learn how to develop my own 4x5's ... So of course that means me being me, I'll end up with a darkroom eventually. (sorry to my wife)

Charlie

I agree with Silke, that was some of the best coffee I've had in ages. Thanks for warming up the weekend.

Cheers,

Bill,

That is awesome! Looks great! Too bad you weren't able to capture us all when we had to jump from floor-to-floor or when the building blew up ...

Excellent,
Charlie

The great thing about these people is that fanaticism about something, if not everything, is the norm. The side benefit is that our fanaticism automatically drives away those who are satisfied with less. We are their "nut cases."
(sorry to all our spouses, and yet they had to have guessed by the time we married)

You know, that might be why Michelle says she'll never marry me, just keep me as her boy-toy.
