O.K. I would like to announce that we are going to have an outing on the Delmarva Peninsula on Saturday, April 22nd (Rain date will be the 29th). I have found that location could vary due to interest so sound off all who are interested and I will have the thing set up by April 1st. I shoot 35mm but all formats are welcome. A multi-formatted outing would be very interesting and educational in and of itself. Post on this thread your interest, your preferred format, your hometown (for time constraint considerations), your points of interest, if you can trek a bit or if you need to stick close to the roads, prefered subject matter, also if you would consider a two dayer. Things of the nature that would allow me to plan something that would be enjoyable by all. I will contact everybody who wishes to attend of plans by March 25th for approval and finalized plans by the 1st. Why April? No tourists yet and the mosquito's have Harleys after June 1st. If we have a good enough turn out, perhaps we can plan something for October. Thank you for viewing this post.

I'm in and mobility is not a problem.
Hometown is Coatesville, PA but a drive is not a problem.
Medium format
I am not very familiar with the Delmarva Peninsula so I would be looking for suggestions with regard to specific locations. Pretty much open to anything.

Sorry for neglecting to enter the pertinant info:

4x5 most likely.
Wilmington
Anything really - some of the marshes around have nice old shipyards which may be of interest (I usually think of that when I think Delmarva)
I can go anywhere with the camera

8 x 10
Gaithersburg, MD
Anything which reflects light
I'm good for approximately 3 miles each way. Any farther than that and I'll downsize to 4 x 5.

That could work. I think that people from out of the area may get a kick out of the gun towers @ Cape Henelopen. On the other hand, sand + cameras isn't the best combo.

I'd be up for the towers at Cape Henlopen, and/or wandering around Lewes. I don't mind the wildlife refuge as long as wildlife is not the primary subject matter. Kinda hard to photograph birds with a 4x5.

Then you guys are in luck. I work with "Lt." Mike Rogers of the 261st coastal artillery battaion reenacters with DENREC at Fort Miles in Cape Henlopen State Park and they are having their big everybod- show-up-in-uniform weekend on the 29th of April. Goose pimples yet? When I get a schedule I will forward it to all of you. They might even fire the new 12-incher they just finally got installed. Or maybe if you would rather we might wrangle a private tour on the 22nd or any other weekend for that matter by Mike.

No preference but no touristy stuff either
Your personal mobility
I have a car that'll get me to a parking lot and I have legs that will walk me pretty much anywhere from there

I assume you'll give us the time, rendez-vous point and itenerary on the 25th?

Regards, Art.

My suggestion is to post all the details in this thread instead of contacting everyone personally. This way, people who would like to come at the last minute will know where to go and what's going on.

Just a suggestion.

Regards, Art.

This Delmarva trip sounds great. Don't forget some of these following places of interest.

St. Michaels - architecture, streets, ships

Oxford - street scenes and architecture, Robt. Morris Inn

Salisbury- Pemberton Hall, Can't lose with a photo of this regardless of light.

Princess Anne - Colonial architecture

Berlin- lovely downtown, Atlantic Hotel, film background for Runaway Bride and Tuck everlasting.

Snowhill- old farming area- Iron Furnace, colonial iron smelting area

Deal Island - boats, river, crabbing, Tangier sound

Chrisfield - old packing houses, boats , river, crabbing

Parksley - Trains, old towns and villages

Chincoteague- old resort and beach town

Ocean City- ocean and resort area

Annapolis- old buildings and streets.

Quantico- old architecture

Whitehaven - lovely old hotel

Chestertown- old streets and buildings

Onancock - old farms and buildings

Accomac- old farms and buildings

There is a lot of very interesting things to photograph on the Eastern Shore, once you get here. Pill boxes are OK, but there is more to be found to make those large square inches of silver sing!

All the best,
Sam Hotton
