I am looking for recommendations from others that may be developing Arista.edu.ultra, or Fomapan 200 in sheet film sizes in deep tanks (3.5 gallon) in hangers. It seems that HC-110 dilution B is not recommended for this film, and in my tests does tend to produce contrasty results as compared to Fortepan 200 in the same developer. I have been using D-76 straight in deep tank, but I am getting some mottling in the even toned skys.

I've processed Fomapan 200 120 rollfilm in Acufine in deep tanks with no mottling.

Deep tank development for Fomapan 200

Hi Phototone
I, too, got the same sort of problem with the mottled defects with this film. I never had any similar problem with the developer I used or any other film. It is, inevitably, a problem with the quality of the base film.

Regard, Kathab

Yes, Scott! Excellent tonal uniformity and no streaking or mottling.

Unfortunately, Pryocat HD does not lend itself to deep-tank replenished style of developer that I need, considering the quantity of film I need to process per run. (14 to 15 sheets of 5x7)

If you're just doing 5x7", why not use a smaller tank for the developer (like 4 or 5 quart 5x7" tanks)? I do 5x7" in ABC pyro with tanks of this size, and I get consistent results with three batches of 8 sheets through the developer, one right after the next.

Michael Smith does 2 batches per tray of ABC, but I think tank development doesn't aerate the developer as much as shuffling in trays, and the volume of developer per sheet is greater, which is why I think I can get another batch out of it.

Pyrocat is really cheap, I use it once and toss it.

I use it one-shot in ABS tanks for processing 5x7 and 8x10 sheets.
