Compard D512

I normally use traditional developers (in terms of film speed). Now I am about to try Compard D512, instructions say that this developer does not yield full rated film speed. So practically, if i have iso400 film (say HP5), shoot it at box speed and develop as recommended on the developer instructions, what the negative will look like?

Well for one thing you will see will be less acutance due to dispersion of the image in the emulsion. There is only one developer formulation that I am aware of that produces true deep layer development and it is only used for nuclear emulsions. It uses Amidol rather than hydroquinone as the developing agent because it is the only one that produces this effect. Of course in this case one is not interested in the production of a photographic image.

My question to you is what do you expect to see?
