Dead Fuji GA645?

I'm a idiot and replaced the batteries in my GA645 without turning the camera off. When the camera is now turned on the lcd screen lights up for a few seconds and then turns off. Neither the autofocus nor the film advance motor work. Fuji will not repair it because they can not get the necessary parts to do so. At this point I've written it off as the cost of stupidity and accepted the fact that its kaput, but is there anything else to try? Is there anything interesting to do/turn it into?

Get a wire and short out the 2 battery terminals. Preferably, leave it overnight. This would hopefully reset the NVRAM inside the camera at which point it might work. Does not hurt to try.

I can't for the life of me understand why having the camera on or off when changing the batteries should matter. Are you sure the new batteries are up to snuff voltage wise?

Sounds to me that the design engineer was the idiot.

Replace the batteries again. Maybe the "new" batteries that you put into are already drained.

I've removed the batteries from my GA645 a few times with the camera on with no harm. Have you tried another battery?

Call him first of course. He repaired my GA645 when it had the jumpy LCD issue.

Remove the batteries, switch the camera to on and try to do some operatings. This should empty all internal condensers and let the microcontroller do a reset. Should work then, not a great deal.
