De vere fan

Hi
This may be a silly question, but we've been given a De vere 504, but it had a fan. I've bought a replacement but which way round does it go. i.e. does it blow cold air in or should it suck the hot air out?
Any help would be appreciated.

A general remark on cooling:
the airflow direction does not matter.

BUT with in-blow one may control air quality (eg. dust conten), with suction the plain room air is used, as it may enter through unintented slits. In case of a tight housing and hose-connector in-/out-lets in a apparatus then even this argument falls off.

I must add one remark:
in case several temperature critical elements are in a apparatus, then the most critical should get the coolest air, thus in such case the airflow direction may be of importance.

To sum it up, in general there are two independant issues:
-) air flow direction
-) blow-in or suction

Pretty sure it should be used as an exhaust. Most fans in small areas are. Think computer power supplies.

Any reason why? I can't think of.

EDIT:
Well, I had a hard day yesterday. Likely the reason for such at a tower computer is the restriction I hinted at above: two heat sources of different heat sensitiviy. The airstream for the CPU should not be ballasted by the dissipated heat from the switching power unit.
But for a classic enlarger I do not see such restriction in airflow direction.

Interesting question, something I have never thought about.

I just checked my 504, the fan forces air into the head, not out.

As the air flow is not much, I held a piece of paper up to the brown grid, let go of the paper, the paper stuck to the grid; therefore air is inbound.

The fans on my DeVere 5108 low air into the head . Not sure about the 504 but I would suspect it's similar.

I have a DeVere 1010 XLH and the air is blown into the light box.
