Want to Buy De Vere 5108 enlarger

I'm looking for a De Vere 5108 enlarger in the UK , preferably with a multi-grade head.

Anyone tired of the big stuff and hoping to pass on the baton?

I had one once, then moved to horizontal. It's a good machine, as long it's properly maintained. Good luck with your hunt.

De Vere 5108

Thanks Muihlinn. I've been trying to build a lightbox to go on the back of my monorail but have struggled to get even light distribution, hence my thoughts turning to a De Vere.

What horizontal rig do you have?

What about something like THIS with an extra diffuser and UV filter added?

I've used a few (colour head only though); they're exceptionally good and really easy to use. The head does run very hot so care must be taken there and with its internal fans. A vacuum easel may be of interest, although I've heard they're a bit noisy and I've used magnets to hold the paper rolls down normally.

There's one for sale here, but with a colour head and slightly overpriced. And you might be able to pick one up here.

Thanks Old-N-Feeble for the suggestion but i'm not sure something like that produces enough light. I've built the lightbox in the picture with four LED spots that put out at least twice the light of the panel you suggest, and they give me decent print times when i attach to the back of my 10x8 monorail. The problem i have is, even with a diffuser, i can't get even illumination because they are spots - see the second photo which makes things look a lot worse but i am getting a 2/3 stop difference between the bright and duller areas which is too much for printing. I've tried adding small supplementary bulbs to fill the shadows but without success - hence starting to look for the De Vere. The reason i opted for LEDs is the absence of heat; something bright enough to fill the shadows would have to be tungsten or halogen and then i'm into the realms of cooling etc. It's all very frustrating!!

Thanks - i've wandered around the internet looking and came across both of these. I'll give the De Vere site a call on Monday and see what they've got.

A De Vere 1010ET. About the box, if you're using point lights, like halogen bulbs, make a mixing box as tall as the shorter side at least. With LEDs and such you may need a double layer diffuser as they are really bright tiny spots

Not yet but it may come to that. I think I'll look again at my light box based on the advice i'm getting here before considering next steps.

Interesting stuff, thanks, especially the extreme edge lit perspex. It may not be bright enough on its own but it might make an interesting 'powered' diffuser! Need to look for a UK stockist.

Thanks, i'll look again at my measurements. Was just trying to keep the bulbs as close as possible to the image to avoid too much fall off. It takes an awful lot of light to go through a negative and all those bellows, and still give a reasonable printing time.

Had a look at the 1010ET - never seen one before - quite a beast!
