It is with great sadness that I post here that David Prifti, teacher, maker, force of nature has passed away this week.

He will be missed beyond the capabilities of words to describe.

Prifti was an incredibly generous person and artist. I met him shortly before I did Coffer's wet plate workshop, he invited me to his house, so I could watch him pour a few plates. He will be dearly missed by a lot of people, and he was a real inspiration. My condolences to Monika and his kids and family, to all his students at CCHS, and his colleagues among the wet plate world. His APUG gallery:

For those in the Boston area, there will be a memorial service on November 30th 4pm at the First Parish Unitarian Church in Concord, MA.

I too am incredibly sad to hear this.
A gifted, generous, and prolific teacher and artist is lost.
I never had the privilege of meeting him in person, but I heard very nice and inspirational accounts, which very well resonated with his fantastic and sometimes bold artwork.
It's a sad day for this world. Many have lost a friend, family member, mentor, or source of inspiration.
My thoughts are with the Prifti family, and I offer my very deepest condolences as well as respect.

I never knew David Prifti but saw his name, and admired his photographic work, on apug and around the internet.
Too young at 50.

I too am deeply moved and saddened by his loss. I was so looking forward to a chance to meet him, having seen and admired his wet plate work for several years, and just viewed his work in person at the Masterplaters show at the Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville, Maryland. I believe the show is still up for a few more days/weeks. If you can't make it to Boston, try to stop in the CCBC gallery and see his work.

Monty nailed it. Prifti was a force of nature. Just a giant exploding rolling ball of fun, enthusiasm and life. If every teacher had his personal gifts, the planet would be a much better place. RIP. He'll be missed by so many people.

Having had the pleasure of meeting David in person I can attest to Monty's description of him... he was a force of nature, a wonderful and admired teacher and an incredible artist. I also had the wonderful opportunity to curate a show of his work (and two other fine photographers) in a show two years ago at the Valley Photo Center here in Springfield. Every one of his plates was a gem.

David's presence will be sorely missed by so many people. My condolences to his wife and children.

When I saw his portfolio on APUG for the first time - I was in shock for a couple of days how great and powerful his work is.
