Darlot & period lens info?

1. Any publications listing Darlot lenses and coverage?

2. Did Darlot make a lens that would cover 14 x 17?

3. A list of period lenses 1850's-1889 that will cover 14 x 17 and larger

Someone on Ebay sells/auctions a copy of BF Franklin (US agent for Darlot)/Darlot catalogs on CD. I don't recall the time period covered, but you can find the auction easily enough. Unless you are absolutely wedded to Darlot, you might also look for Clement & Gilmer lenses. I have some and they are excellent. You might also try Camera Eccentric. He has alot of old catalogs and info online. PM me if you can't find any of this stuff. The Vade Mecum lists a 21 inch Darlot with 60-75 degree coverage (1888) but doesn't list any other useful data that I can see.

Can't help you with 1 and 2, but 3 I can do. At least all German glass up to 1910.

But you'll have to define what you mean by "cover" first - illuminates? Reasonably sharp? "Portrait sharpness"? Tack sharp?

You'll need about 22" or 55cm image circle.

Petzvals have 20 degrees sharp coverage, Aplanat /Rapid Rectilinear 30 degres increasing to 50 at small stops - except for the wide-angle Aplanats (f:16 or so), which can go all the way up to and even over 100 degrees.
