Darkroom stuff and negatives: I have no idea....

What happened during my development here. this is a 120 neg of Tri X 320, developed in Kodak HC110 like always ( I used MDC guidelines )

The bottom left and left side of this negative have something happening and I do not know what. As a backgrounder I've been developing BW for over 5 yrs and this is a first. I'm comfortable with the entire process so there is nothing different in my processing it's the 'same old, same old'

Thoughts on the problem? All I can think is it might have something to do with the fixer which is Kodafix

It looks like it might be solarisation to me. Have you checked your development tanks for any light leaks? It's not something easy to do accidentally, much less intentionally!

@ E 76, it's possible but hard to tell. I use Paterson Super System 4 tanks and they've always been light tight. Here's one more and the "residue" or something seems to be all over the subjects jacket .. I'm really puzzled. Also the sky is all messed up...

Are you sure you remembered to put the centre core into your Paterson tank? It looks like Sabattier effect (sometimes referred to as solarization) to me.

For the first negative, is there a physical residue on the negative itself? That's my first thought, which would be either incomplete washing or contaminant from one of your chemicals (possibly old stock or bottom of the jug)? The second negative does look like light leakage, either the top was not screw on completely (done that) or the center column was left out (done that too).

@Matt, thanks; yep I definitely do use the centre core for the spools.

@Kevin, that's what I'm suspicious of, a chemical residue. I'm wondering if I was to put the negs thru some fixer one more time if that might clear this up. Any thoughts there?

Wouldn't hurt to refix with fresh chems, followed with a long wash.

Looks like some for of chemical residue to me,try a refix in fresh fixer and wash using the ilford method, then try using distelled water for the final rinse,Richard

Paterson products carry a life-time warranty. If they ever do begin to leak or become non light-tight you can exchange them for new. I've exchanged several 8 roll tanks at Freestyle when they started to leak but they always remained light tight.
