I have some track lighting in my new darkroom space that takes the standard GU10 lamps. Is anyone aware of safe-lights that would be drop in replacements for these? I have seen standard LED bulb type replacements but nothing safe-light related. Does anyone know if putting makeshift filters over the existing bulbs would work or would they still be too intense?

Thanks,
Joel.

Watch the wattage on those lamps, not to mention the heat.

They are designed to be line voltage (120 V) equivalents to the low voltage halogen MR 16 lamps common in track lighting. All of the glitz without the remote transformers or the over sized heads with built in transformers.

Short answer is no to drop in safe light replacements and no to a makeshift filter. Any makeshift filter would have to encapsulate the entire lamp and would be a severe fire hazard.

They burn very bright and very hot.
