Darkroom equipment liquidation on Brooklyn craigslist.

Long Island University-Brooklyn campus is located here and according to this:
liu.edu/Brooklyn/Academics/School-of-Arts-and-Communication/Resources-Facilities
"Photography Darkrooms and Wet Lab" is a course in the Media Arts program, or was, if they are selling off all the equipment and just offering digital photography courses

Probably a good opportunity to pick up good equipment

It looks like the enlargers are VCCE heads. The V track easels are the best I've used. This is a real opportunity.

I’ve been following darkroom and film-related Craigslist and similar listings in the metro area for years due to long-term and passionate GAS. I get the impression that over the last couple of years there has been a proliferation of larger scale buyers in the area that are resellers and swoop in on things like this. I hope I’m wrong, as I would love to see this kit go to a slough of different artists rather than a reseller who ponies up bigger dollars for the lot and leaks them out on evilbay with a primary focus on profit.

its a 3+ hour drive each way, pick up only but no prices seems like it would cost more in gas and time
than the gear is worth

John if there is something you are interested in let me know as I'm planning on going next week..

I've made quite a few road tips to make good, questionable and ill-advised purchases over the years.
I really enjoy driving though.

Heck, I live 10 blocks up the street! I'll definitely drop in at 10 on Thursday. Good reason to be late for work.

10 blocks, very fortunate. Those enlargers look in reasonable condition from first viewing and should be useful. Here in the UK, I use De Vere, but I've used the 5"x4" LPL units in the past and they work well.

That 300/2.8 Nikon lens they have pictured is really quite rare, I'd be very interested to know what they're selling that for.

I went yesterday. There were quite a few people there for the start of the sale. As far as sales go it was very poorly organized; several instances of miscommunication, no prices listed anywhere, things just loose in boxes or in piles.... it was a bit of a hot mess. There were people there from other school darkrooms who were filling boxes with stuff to buy in bulk and take to their facilities.
There was only one reseller there that I was aware of and he went straight for the cameras (and he got a lot of them). It seems some people were allowed in early (which I was pretty annoyed about) so some of the things I was looking for were already gone when I arrived, supposedly at the 'start' of the sale.

On the flip side, despite a lot of people crammed in a small space, everybody was pretty civil. I get the sense that a lot of people were just there for the cameras, which I wasn't so that made it a little easier on me. Even though it was a lot of people converging on a small room and a finite amount of stuff I was still able to find some things I needed. I ran into a friend there who runs a community darkroom in my area so, when I had found what I needed, I helped her dig for things she needed for a while.

I was able to find a Gra-lab wall timer in decent shape, 50mm & 80mm Schneider Componon enlarger lenses, a Saunders easel, a couple of developing tanks to replace a couple I have that are in rough shape, two Kindermann 120 reels, a tray-mount siphon for washing prints and some chemistry. The prices on the timer, lenses and easel were about the going rate; Not bad, but nothing special. The prices on everything else were very cheap. At the rate it was going I'll be surprised if there was anything useful left at the end of the day.

All in all, it had its frustrations but it was worth going. I definitely found things I needed. Thank you, fiddle, for starting this thread and making me aware of the sale.

You got it! Glad someone was able to get somethibg out of it.
