In anticipation of receiving 1200 ft of 35mm cine film, i am trying to figure out how to spool it up. Tonight, with my house darkened, I sat in the front bathroom, allowing my eyes to adjust. Across the hall was a bedroom with the door closed and the light on. It took 5 layers of masking tape to completely blacken the door gap from the light from a door gap across the hall! When I turned the light off, it took only a closed door to create a darkened room that would allow mounting of the new film. I think I know what I'm going to do in there future with this film.

If you have a spool for 100 foot a changing bag works ok for 1000 foot cans keep the can horizontal takes 55 mins to drag inch out 100 feet.

I think I'll try putting an old sheet in the doorway and then shutting the door onto it so it plugs the light path all the way around the door.

XMAS - I don't see the picture you are describing. Can you explain some more?

Sorry it was too abstract.
Some 100 foot bulk loads came on a 100 foot small cine camera or survelliance camera spool. If you don't have one you need a cine editing machine or respooler.

Try ebay for spool

1000 feet cans normally only have a core.
if you lay the 1000 (or 400) foot can down flat and lift off the top cover then remove the sticker.
You can pull out the end of the film, with the roll still in the can 'saucer', fit the end to the reel, and wind film on to the reel slowly, forcing the bigger rool of film to turn slowly by dragging it on to reel. You need to avoid it turning into ringlets like ladies hair.

When you fill the 100 foot spool you place the spool in 100 foot film packaging and seal and also reseal the 1000 or 400 foot packaging.

I only ever do 100 foot at a time.

My chum dropped 400 foot into ringlets into bath. like black spaghetti apparently.

100 foot takes me 55 minutes a reel in changing bag or darkroom.
