My pocket 6x9 folder, a Nettar f4.5 is ready to go, but I did not bring it to the funeral. When I got out of the car, there was a great looking two house shot. Ohnonono. I had to go to a far place and may never go there again. Unless I now go back just to get the shot.
Always carry a camera.

Murphy's law. When you have your camera, nothing note worthy to shoot. Forget(or purposely leave it home) the camera, and everywhere you look is something you want to shoot.

I keep a Nikon D100 and 28-85mm lens in the car now. It gets too hot to keep a film camera there, and D100's are cheap nowadays so if it gets fried you can always get another cheap.

Yep, happens to me all the time. No camera, the shots are everywhere. Camera at the ready, not much happening. Even though I'm giving photography a break, I still need to carry something, because we know what happens when you don't.

I cannot stoop to carrying a digital P&S (or a digital anything), so my hacked Nikon FG w/ non A.I. H 50 lens will give me the quality and the small size. A light little rangefinder like a Konica C35 initially sounded good, but you can't do closeups w/ those. When it rains, I like shooting the water on plants and stuff.

I used to always carry an ancient Mamiya 6 folder, small, light weight, convenient, until it disappeared last summer. I just replaced it with a Fuji GW690ii and took it out for my daily walk, what a boat anchor. I put an Optech wide strap on it, but dang it's a moose hanging on me, although I did get a pile of compliments on it. My nephew thinks it needs a large display on the back so I can share with everyone ........even after I explained it uses film........ and he's 43.

I'm a big fan of the Nikon FG as a utility camera as well. Highly competent, smallish, inexpensive. The Nikon 50f1.8e (second version) is a great performer and compact.

I was at the Golden Gate National Cemetery today with 6 Boy Scouts. (Saturday was the big day with thousands of Scouts planting flags - today was the public ceremony).

I was out with Rick A's OM-4 (thanks Rick) and the 180mm. I took a few shots as scouts wait their turn to do their part. Then I take a few more as my scouts are up front holding banners during the service medley. Satisfied that I had what I came to get I put the camera away.

I didn't listen to the little voice inside my head that said "change the roll" "switch to 85mm".

After the medley, with my camera safely tucked away, the boys turned towards me and started walking. I saw the most beautiful photograph with all the banners presented clearly...

That is what my daughter refers to as a "face palm" moment.
