I have one of these cameras with a rollfilm back. To my superficial eye it seems generally in good condition. However the shutter needs some sort of overhaul - the curtains seem instact, the mechanism fires, but it is clearly is maladjusted in some way... and the mirror has fallen off inside. Is there anyone who repairs these in the UK, or is there anywhere one might find guides to disassembly and overhaul?
It's probably a Houghton Ensign Reflex rebadged. I have two, the first I bought a few years ago and is sat in the growing restoration queue, the shutter curtain needs replacing. A few were rebadged TP Ruby Reflex cameras.
The Ensign shutter design is similar to (and pre-dates) the early pre-Anniversary Speed Graphics, a long curtain with multiple slits of different widths, and different tensions. They are relatively simple.
Wow how time passes... I've now had the mirror resilvered by VCSM....just went to put it in and the shutter curtain ribbon snapped, thoroughly worn out by the look of it.
