It looks like the D76 powder bag (1 liter stock solution) is discontinued. Only the powder bag making 5 liters are available.
For instance, on the net, it seems that only left overs are offered at a higher price than expected.
Somebody could confirm it?
(Same thing happened to the powder bag of Extol some years ago.)

A quick check shows both one liter and one gallon sizes in stock at B&H and Freestyle, at regular prices.

I couldn't get any broccoli at the greengrocer today.

Locally, i did not find those bags in 2 big photo stores.
But the third one has it. Just made the phone call.
Sorry for the false alarm. You understand that someone doing films might be easily on an alarm mode.

these "alarm" threads are really tiresome and just waste everybody's time.

the moment someone can't find something in a shop, it doesn't mean we're all doomed, you know ...

Well I think I apologized.
Also, I am not an alarmist on a regular basis.
Hopefully you should be able to consider those factors.
If not, I feel sorry for your up-tight defensive attitude (speaking of brocoli "joke" previously). Is this the same at work for you?

OK, let's all take a deep breath. It was an honest mistake I'm sure (and you are talking to the world champion at mistakes here), and the alleged slight was just a bit of a short hand bit of funnin. This is the problem w/ the internet, we can't see people's expression, we can't hear the tone of voice, nuthin. It's a pretty poor way to communicate w/o that, and everyone knows that non verbal cues make up probably 80% of all communication. It's almost never about what was said, it's about how it was said, and w/o knowing the other person, w/o hearing the inflection and body cues, it's inevitable that things get misconstrued.

This is actually a good thread, in that it highlights the uncertainties us Canadians experience regularly.

We don't have here competing sources that stock a variety of darkroom stuff. And the distribution system is opaque at best.

But generally, I would suggest patience before coming to conclusions about things like packaging sizes - they do change.

That has happened with XTOL... unfortunately. Someone has to develop B&W on an industrial basis to make it affordable.
For instance, HC-110 is now sold in a huge content compared to the previous size.
Should I start an extensive investigation before asking a question of that sort?

Your perspective is interesting .

The litre bottle of HC-110 is just slightly bigger than twice the previous size. For $40.00, you get 160 rolls of film developed over as long a time as you wish.

And the $13.00 package of X-Tol (makes up 5 one litre bottles of stock/replenisher) is enough to develop anywhere between 33 and 70 rolls of film over a six month period - just over $2.00 per month.

All prices are Canadian prices from Henry's. They don't include taxes or shipping.

hmm.

those are pretty passive-aggressive personally directed responses.

I shan't bother reporting your post as inappropriate, but you might want to read the site ts&cs before you resort to this sort of unpleasantness again.

What you could do is do what Rick did, and gather some evidence before being alarmist.

this isn't particular to you, it happens quite regularly, and it is, as I said before, tiresome.

OMG I can't find any Shanghai GP3 120 film(really miss it too) and I really don't care if you can't find any broccoli pdeeh! You know what I do if I find a post or a thread I don't like? I don't fricking read it. If it's a waste of time I certainly don't read it. pdeeh, you've wasted to much time on this thread by posting four replies of your own.
I also get up on the wrong side of the bed once in a while, but that's soon brought to my attention by my better half. So, lets all lighten up! Be happy!

I find it strange that you should report your situation on the same as the story about the effect of the atomic tests in the Nevada proving ground on Kodak film. I attempted to cross-check the two stories and sure enough couldn't get anywhere in trying to establish a link :D

this is the main reason I started to mix my own;always fresh too

I agree with Ralph, but will add that you can mix up any amount of solution you need when you mix from bulk chemicals. As a sweetener, mixing from bulk stock, is, in many cases, cheaper by a long margin. Even more money is saved when using bulk stock if you are erratic in your chemistry requirements, you should be able to virtually eliminate wastage.

If you think you have problems in Canada, then try Australia. At least you can drive an automobile across the border and stock up, I know, I know, we could swim, but................... :surprised:

About 2 or 3 months ago I went to buy a few more packs of 1 litre size here in London and found that the price had doubled. In fact in one shop the 1 litre is priced that same as the gallon pack. So I checked around other suppliers and one major one with a large mail order outlet said that Kodak are not producing the 1 litre size any more. It does seem to be readily available in other shops, though not at a price I would buy it so either this supplier did not want to sell the inflated price 1 litre pack or Kodak in the UK are not supplying it or at least discouraging it. So the same thing might be happening in Canada.

European suppliers have it and still at a reasonable price so I just stock up from there when I also stock up on film, also cheaper than UK. I don't know what Kodak UK policy is either with supply or pricing. I never understood why Dektol is three times the price here compared to US or mainland Europe. If I run out or cannot economically restock I'll just make my own.

I know this might sound crazy, but when I used this type developer I always preferred ID-II+. People say there is no difference, but that's not true in my case. I could see the difference. I'm not saying which is better, but I am saying I liked the results, for me anyway, from ID-II+. I haven't used it since Ilford removed whatever the "plus" was from the formula so now the two may be exactly the same.

The "plus" was an anti-silvering agent. It was added to reduce sludging in lab processors but could also have reduced the degree of physical development, which could result in a slight improvement in sharpness. This is apparently what some people observed.

The plus version of ID-11 didn't work as well with tabular films as regular ID-11 so it was taken off the market.
Mike,
Thanks for that info as I never was exactly sure what the + was. Yes, that's what I observed in my final prints. They seemed slightly sharper. I thought it might be edge effects or something, but in those years I didn't really care what it was I just like the results better.

If you like sharper you could use D76 or clones at 1+1 or 1+2 or 1+3 as a one shot developer.
The little micro scales are available cheap with 0.01gm resolution if you want to mix from raw chemicals.
D76 was a cheap fine grain developer from '27 or so not a magic bullet.

Eg no vesting interest but

Some years ago a rumor started that toilet paper was in short supply. Within hours store shelves were emptied. Some people bought so much that they had to devote a room to their supply. Others had to beg from those that had. Shows the power of rumors.

When it comes to "toilet paper", i understand why this thread has become a piece of s... This comment or other ones in the same thread, if you will.
I thought there was a strong solidarity amongst the last film shooters but it looks like rivalry for petty things - the funny word - is just the same whether u shoot film or digital. Forums are meant to become as such somehow.
Just passing by (and less and less).
Have a nice day!

Obviously you still do not appreciate how fast rumors get started on the internet. What happens if some believe that D-76 has been discontinued and there is a run on remaining bags. How will you obtain it then. We live in interesting times. Don't take offense so easily.
