That has happened with XTOL... unfortunately. Someone has to develop B&W on an industrial basis to make it affordable. This is actually a good thread, in that it highlights the uncertainties us Canadians experience regularly.
We don't have here competing sources that stock a variety of darkroom stuff. And the distribution system is opaque at best.
But generally, I would suggest patience before coming to conclusions about things like packaging sizes - they do change.

For instance, HC-110 is now sold in a huge content compared to the previous size.
Should I start an extensive investigation before asking a question of that sort?
If not, I feel sorry for your up-tight defensive attitude (speaking of brocoli "joke" previously). Is this the same at work for you?

I find it strange that you should report your situation on the same as the story about the effect of the atomic tests in the Nevada proving ground on Kodak film. I attempted to cross-check the two stories and sure enough couldn't get anywhere in trying to establish a linkI couldn't get any broccoli at the greengrocer today.
this is the main reason I started to mix my own;always fresh tooLocally, i did not find those bags in 2 big photo stores.
But the third one has it. Just made the phone call.
Sorry for the false alarm. You understand that someone doing films might be easily on an alarm mode.

I know this might sound crazy, but when I used this type developer I always preferred ID-II+. People say there is no difference, but that's not true in my case. I could see the difference. I'm not saying which is better, but I am saying I liked the results, for me anyway, from ID-II+. I haven't used it since Ilford removed whatever the "plus" was from the formula so now the two may be exactly the same.
Mike,The "plus" was an anti-silvering agent. It was added to reduce sludging in lab processors but could also have reduced the degree of physical development, which could result in a slight improvement in sharpness. This is apparently what some people observed.
The plus version of ID-11 didn't work as well with tabular films as regular ID-11 so it was taken off the market.
If you like sharper you could use D76 or clones at 1+1 or 1+2 or 1+3 as a one shot developer.Mike,
Thanks for that info as I never was exactly sure what the + was. Yes, that's what I observed in my final prints. They seemed slightly sharper. I thought it might be edge effects or something, but in those years I didn't really care what it was I just like the results better.
