There is general agreement that Kodak's recommended minimum for D76 capacity are overly conservative (about 236 ml per "roll"/8x10 sheet of film). Ilford is much more aggressive in their recommendation (100 ml minimum for each "roll"). Can I rely on Ilford's recommendations when using D76? I know developer is cheap but not my time.
What I am trying to do is use my stainless steel tanks to their maximum roll capacity when developing, using D76 diluted 1+1 (one shot use only). My tanks allow me 5 rolls of 35 mm film in a 1100 ml tank or 8 rolls in a 2000 ml tank, which is theoretically less developer than the published Kodak minimums. In reality it is usually less than that since I am usually doing a mix of 120 and 35 mm film, e.g. yesterday I was doing two rolls of 120 and 1 roll of 35mm in my smaller (1000 ml) tank. I am using D76 1+1.
Thanks.
