D-76 dev quantities at 1:3

Is 4 oz. of D-76 stock enough to develop two rolls of Tri-X in a typical 2-reel tank?

Doubtful.

Kodak's recommendations on D-76 are ambiguous; they can be read as implying either that 8 ounces of stock is the minimum requirement for a 35mm roll, or that 4 ounces is OK if you extend developing times by 10%. But 2 ounces per roll is half of even that. See Kodak publication J-78.

I was afraid of that, and I'm not in the mood to experiment with these particular two rolls. Have to block out more time today and experiment later.

I have had problems with D-76 becoming exhausted when diluted 1:1. It is a cheap developer so why not use more?

I'm after the grain I get at 1:3 but didn't want to develop one reel at a time, twice. It's something like 20 minutes per.
