Match made in heaven. Possibly only bettered by seasoned Xtol. I really like HP5+ at 1600, and it pushes well in the standard developers. However I also like it in more exotic forumulas like pyro where you shoot it aroudn 320.

Not that you can tell that much from looking at scans of negatives online, but I have a few shots from two 35mm rolls <here>

I've not tried to print from either roll, but based on my very limited experience with b&w negatives, it looks like a good combination to me.

One roll was metered at EI 400 and the other at 320. Both were developed in stock D-76, 6:00 minutes at 72*F.

needs N+ development;otherwise a bit too low in contrast.
Generally, I find HP5+ a good film, but difficult to build up the contrast I need for alt processes...I use FP4+ instead. For silver printing/scanning, HP5+ in D-76 will work very well for you.

According to B&H sales, HP5 is their best B&W film seller and D 76 is probably the most used developer out there (ID11 would be high on the sales list but it is pretty much identical in results to D76) So I think it's fair to assume that HP5 in D76 is possibly the most used combo, I use it and love it although I agree with Vaughan that it isn't the best film for POP processes.
