Hey guys, I need to determine lensboard size for this lens I don't yet have.

So I used the front picture, went in the old CZJ catalog and found this lens takes a 42mm push-on. By ratios, that means the outer diameter of the lens is 76-77mm.

Then using the back picture and that same measurement, with ratios it seems the retaining ring is 53mm outer/45mm inner diameter give or take.

Does that make this a copal/compur #2 52.5mm size? Thank you.

Wait until the wretched thing arrives. Between-the-wars shutters don't conform to modern standards. Oh, and by the way, in addition to the retaining ring's inner diameter you need to know the thread pitch.

I've done dead reckoning of the size of gear by measuring a photo before and it's only useful for order of magnitude estimations. Knowing the measurements of the photo doesn't put you in any better position to know which lensboard size you need than straight guessing.

Hi,

I have a CZJ Tessar 4.5/15cm in dial set Compur #2 on my Zeiss Ikon Ideal 250/7.
Looks exactly like your's, speeds up to 1/200s. Takes 42mm push-on filters.
Same bayonet mount like your's, same mount like my 6.3/20.5cm in Compound #2.

Anyway I just measured the outer diameter of the mounting thread as 43.8mm, the lensbord has a 44.2mm diameter hole.
The shutter is too large for a modern #1 lens board. Just tested that.

Can't tell the outer size of the retaining ring, as my Ideal doesn't use any due to it's bayonet.

Hope this helps a bit
Jens

Thank you very much! It seems I'll have to make a custom board for that one. I'm trying to put it on a Horseman (80x80mm).

This seller on ebay 3d prints horseman boards and makes custom ones. I just ordered a recessed 00 board the other day. Now I just have to wait for the red white and blue truck of joy and happiness to arrive. I have purchased other oddball boards from him before and was happy. I have no affiliation with him other than buying from him. https://www.ebay.com/str/inireshop?_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l161211

Thanks. Silly me already bought the 52.5mm board, so I'm going to try to make an insert for it that reduces the hole size.

Initially I was skeptical about 3D printed lens board, much prefering nice aluminum board (I don't have anything that takes wood boards.) But when I got my Toho lens boards were impossible to find or very expensive. So I built my own 3D model and used a service--Treatstock--to contract out printing of the boards. It was so easy (and cheap) I moved on to model the Arca-Swiss 110mm board, and now I'm, working on some other models. All this is to say that even if you don't have the modeling skills, sites like thingiverse have free 3D models of lensboard you can download and send off for printing. My boards usually cost me about $8-10 each to print in black PLA, and I know I've seen 80mm Horseman boards online somewhere.

I was skeptical too. I had just inherited some Wollensak lenses and I wanted to try them out on my Horseman and didn't want to spend a lot. I saw the guy on ebay listing 3d printed boards and I asked about the oddball sizes and it was done. They work just fine. Would I prefer metal? Of course. But these do the job nicely.
