Do a search here and LF Forum. I know there was a group purchase two or more years ago. Michael Mutmansky (7x17) was part of it if you want to ask him. Bob Herbst (12x20) may also have been in on it, because I know he has some.
There may be several of us interested. Naturally that lowers the price. Count me in if there is interest. I haven't found anything stock that fits matted 7x17s. Please let me know if someone else has.
Exactly John! I have an idea for a portfolio of xpan shots from a new porject I am working on. I also have a good friend who also putting together a portfolio of xpan 9x25 images.
If you are interested in wood boxes, have you tried local cabinet shops? Also, there are some outfits that advertise in magazines like Fine Woodworking that make boxes (drawers) to order, cabparts, http://www.cabparts.com/main.html is one that comes to mind. Though most of these work mostly with plywood, a local shop would likely be a bit more flexible.
pm me... i have a little bookbinding biz i run out of my studio. i have done custom boxes/books/portfolios/limited edition artist books etc. for some big clients and well-known (yeah, that's not subjective is it?) photographers. i usually collaborate with the client to think a little outside of the perverbial box and usually come up with something pretty unique. like i said, pm me and let me know exactly what you need and perhaps i can help.
Sam - I know a young man named Joe Freeman - he used to be an assistant to Michael and Paula Smith. Quite a talented photographer in his own right and also very skilled at woodworking. He makes custom boxes out of wood that are spectacular. Very reasonably priced as well - he made a 17x17 one for a good friend of mine, Steve Sherman. I don't currently have his email address in my address book, but I have it written down elsewhere. If you pm me I can send it to you.
