Hello All:I'm looking to heavily modify some old, banged up Kodak 4x5 and 8x10 processing hangers to allow me to process 3 1/4 x 5 1/2 sheet film that I'll be shooting in my Kodak Premo #8 camera. My question is the crossmembers for the 4x5 hanger are they attached to the main frame of the hanger by what method?.Are they soldered, glued or what?.Any help would be appreciated.
I don't see an easy fit for changing them. After spot welding they are plated is my guess on the manufactiring. If you are only doing one holder in a tank, then you might get away with stainless steel mini nuts and bolts to hold moved bits in place

The joints on my 4x5 hangars are spot welded. I also have some 8x10 hangars that separated at the joints and were soldered long ago, and are still holding. So your idea of reassembly would work. Once you take the hangars apart, carefully clean each part by buffing with something like a scotchbrite pad, then clamp them in the new position and solder. I haven't done stainless steel soldering in years, but your local welding supply would have the supplies and fluxes. Good luck!
