I just wanted to give a shout out to the current Oriental paper in B&H. I got 11x14 oriental FB paper 2 weeks ago and tried it yesterday and it looked muddy. For comparison I reprinted on Ilford FB and print came normal. This is just a warning for people who want to buy Oriental from B&H, just try it out right away and check if it's good or not. In my case the whites were off.

I guess Oriental doesn't sell as much as Ilford maybe?

Before we scare people away from using this paper or buying from B&H, maybe you should do a more accurate test than, "the whites were off." It's easy to test for fogged paper; just tear a sheet in half and in total darkness develop, stop and fix one half and just fix the second half. Now, compare the whites. If the developed part is darker, then the paper was fogged.

Now, fogged by what is the question. Poor storage, chemical fog and, in the first case, safelight fog are all things that can fog the paper and are certainly not the fault of the supplier. If, indeed, it is age fog, send your test samples back to B&H after talking to customer service and you will likely get a refund.

I had some fogged Oriental G paper years ago from Freestyle. They happily replaced it for me with fresh.

Best,

Doremus

Thanks for the test steps. It wasn't my intention at all to scare people from Oriental or B&H which is my goto store. It's just a friendly warning for anyone that would buy this paper these days from them, I just recommend him or her to try it out right away and check it out.

I usually use Ilford but this time I decided to try Oriental to support them.

If the test in total darkness shows the paper to be fogged then I'd have thought that B&H deserves to know so it can takes steps to check its paper out before it has a lot of dissatisfied customers.

Telling us folks on APUG is fine but this misses out a lot of customers. Just a thought
