I am thinking of making some images and would like to use 8 x10 colour film, 400 speed would be nice for this project.

Any suggestions of which film currently is available in North America, as well suggestions on where to get C41 kits for me to process on my Jobo system I have all the gear to do this and now just need to settle on a film.

I do not mind a bit of grain but at 8 x10 I doubt there will be much as I only want to make prints 3.5 x enlargements from the source. I also really like a warm palette when I envision this project, much like Kodachrome ( which is not available I know) but the direction towards this warmth and saturation.

Bob,

If you're not doing huge volumes the Fujihunt kits are worth a look - https://www.freestylephoto.biz/660163-Fuji-C-41-X-Press-Kit-5-L-Processing-Kit. However it may be worth your while getting individual components from Tetenal / Kodak / Champion etc. The problem with kits is that the bleach (the expensive part generally speaking) has about double the capacity of the developer, so you can end up over using the developer or underutilising the bleach...

I love Portra, my 8x10 enlarger has a VC cold light so 8x10 for me would be contact prints under a 4x5 dichro source. Unique photo offers less than case quantities on Kodak Flexicolor C41. You do end up with enough bleach to last a long time. But for 150 bucks including UPS ground you can get enough to make over 10 L of developer, and bleach will last longer, fix is cheap ,I use Flexicolor final rinse off the Jobo.
Kodak C41 RA is the Bleach and Fixer chemicals to buy this shortens bleach from original C41.

that is about $2200 canadian for 100 sheets, my project is about 25 locations with about 6 sheets per location so I will bite the bullet to do this.

perhaps someone a Kodak Alaris Canada can get you a special price, in return for a good plug on Kodak Film.

Hi again, Bob. Ahem - I think a comparable digital camera is called an observatory, not exactly portable.

I use the Kodak Flexicolor products from Unique Photo. Wonderful stuff and not expensive at all. At least for those of us in the States. Not sure what it will cost you north of the border.
I am seriously considering some 8x10 fall photography on Kodak Portra 400 this fall. Expensive, and I may have to sell a couple of cameras, but the results are stunning even though they are only contact prints. However I will probably use Ektar this year.
