Crystals growing in HC-110 syrup?

Just noticed something amiss with my HC110 concentrate....

I'm guessing this is the new formula. Over on the RRF, a couple of us had a similar problem.

An RFF member got this response from Alaris was "The crystals are a potassium salt and the product is ok to use if the crystals are left in the bottle."

Edit: I reached out to FPP and Freestyle and they said they had not seen the problem.

Should the solution be shaken to dissolve them? Seems odd to me (with absolutely no chemistry background) that a portion of the product can switch from a liquid to a solid state and not effect the dilution ratio.

Dusty, I don't have the answer to your question, but I have the same concerns. The crystals in my bottle were like icicles and could not be poured out of the bottle. As a commentator on RFF said "pretty shoddy formulation".

I would try giving the bottle a shake, nothing to lose I guess.

That would seem to be inconsistent with the label that refers to a 2007 expiry date.
If you have developer on hand that was slated to expire in 2007, you probably should take more photos

I've heard of this before (even before the new formula), and from what I remember it was said that it was fine to just shake it up and use it. I've never experienced it, though.

Gentle heating and mixing may help the crystals to go back into solution.

I once had a bottle of syrup (old formula) begin to form crystals. I didn’t try to dissolve them back in. It worked just fine.

Just out of curiosity and trying to learn a bit more about the chemistry: If left alone the crystals are harmless to the efficacy of HC110 what original part(s) of the formula have formed the crystals but presumably not in sufficient quantities to "rob" it of either any of its efficacy or not enough of its efficacy to make it less than OK?

In Kodak's reply there seems in the statement to be an implication that provided you do nothing to the crystals they are harmless to the developer which does seem to beg the question of: does that mean that attempting to disperse them might be harmful? However but based on only one poster's experience this would not appear to be the case. Kodak's reply may well have been less well thought out that it should have been

This is what I did for the in-opened bottle. Let it sit in a 50degC water bath and stirred. Took a lot of stirring but most of the crystals seem to have gone back into solution.
I used it per my usual protocol and it seems to be fine.
I discarded the content of the partial bottle.
