Some time ago I developed a few rolls of Ilford Delta 100 using the Ilford DD-X developer. The bottle with concentrate had been standing about 2/3 full and sealed for about half a year. The development went fine and the negatives looked excelent. I poored the remaining concentrate over to a smaller plastic bottle in order to minimize the air volume. The next day when I came in to my darkroom I saw that something looking like a floc had formed in the upper part of the liquid.
At first it looked almost milky but after I poored it into a glass beaker and let it stand a few days, solid crystals started to form. The bottle I used had contained liquid soap before but was thoroughly rinsed. Can traces of soap have initiated a crystallization reaction or does anyone have another theory or similar experience ?
