Crown Graphic Special (Image Crop?)

Picked up a Crown Graphic Special and just took it for a test run.

On each image taken, a small amount of "extra image" can be found in the top left corner. Is this a known characteristic of the camera that it should give this extra bit of image? Or, is this not "extra image" but a fault of the camera (or other) that the image did not come through all the way across the top?

Scanner: Epson V600 (Thus 2 unstitched images per photo.)

Film: Arista/4x5/400.

It depends on your film holders, its not the camera. Cut a piece of white copier paper the same size as a sheet of 4x5 film. Insert the paper into any one of your film holders. With the load door closed and darkslide removed trace the edges of the film opening onto the paper with a fine point pencil. Remove the paper from the film holder and examine the pattern on the paper.
This is the area that will be exposed to light unless camera movements place the image circle from the lens off the film holder.

I use a Crown Graphic Special, never seen this sort of behavior before...unless I loaded the holders wrong.

... and most (all?) are symetrical if the film was loaded correctly.

Looks like I jumped the gun by posing this question too quickly. I should have dug deeper first.

Google Images: It looks like my negatives are not the only ones out there that appear this way. A search of Google Images using "4x5 film negatives" and "4x5 vintage film negatives" shows several negatives with "extra image" tabs identical to mine.

Ruler: In measuring the image portions of my negatives, there is a near 1/8" border around each image with the "extra image" tabs extending beyond that and going straight to the film's edge. It doesn't look like the images have been shorted.

I'm satisfied that I'm getting the full image that the film should be giving. Why does the image stray outside where it should end? I don't think it matters at this point. Just crop it and move on.

In the next test, I am going to include notes of the exact area that I will be expecting to see post-development. I have a feeling it'll be true.
