Cross processing B&W chromogenic film

I just had a harebrained idea of cross processing Ilford XP2 Super in E-6 chemistry. Has anyone cross processed b&w chromogenic film in E-6 chemistry to get b&w slides? Is this something that can actually be done or will the colors be all messed up from the color mask that needs to be in the film to print the film in a color enlarger?

It produces greenish/blue transparencies in E-6 I recall.

The mask in XP2+ is intended to be approximately photographically neutral to BW paper, rather than the reddish-orange of regular C-41 films.

I did this as an experiment about 25 years ago.
The result gave extremely low contrast greenish-blue 'transparencies' with nothing approaching D-max.

Not exactly what you asked for, but you can get nice B&W slides from XP2 Super by means of B&W reversal processing - I've done it. If you use dichromate bleach in the bleaching step then even the purple tint goes away giving reasonably clear base. The cons is your EI needs to be 100.

How about the simple, right-color way of reversing XP-2 Super: develop in B&W developer (times for this are all over, since it's become a semi-standard process), stop, rinse (to clear the stop), light fog, then develop in standard C-41 process. You'll get slides that look like normal XP-2 Super negatives -- only they'll be positive images with black rebate. You may need to adjust the first dev a little (different time than for negatives, add a little thiosulfate to clear highlights), and on 120 you won't be able to get away from the base color -- but in 35mm, it ought to produce quite good slides.
