Croatia, Slovenia and Venice...

I'm headed to Croatia, Slovenia and Venice (possibly Hungary) for 2 weeks and I'm only bringing one camera. I can't decide on bringing my F3 with a 28, 50 and 105mm or just my Rolleiflex. I want to travel light so I'm leaning towards the Rolleiflex and the bigger negative will allow me to crop without loosing quality and print bigger. But the option to have a wide and tele with the Nikon is also a benefit.

For those of you who went there, or live there, what did you choose and why?

I have been to Croatia and Venice, bring your F3 for Croatia and 28mm, and same for Venice, I would leave the other two lenses at home and have some fun on your trip, there is more to Croatia than Dubrovnik so travel around if you can, also while there pop down to Montenegro for the most magnificant mountains, Venice is great also for wide angle shots on the canals... Definitely bring your F3 with three lenses. You'll probably find you will shoot more with your 50mm lens.
Many a landscape in Slovenia can be captured nicely with your prime 50mm lens, particularly if you are in the Grottos requiring faster glass, Lake Bled nestled beneath the Julian Alps, the many waterfalls or in Croatia with the mosaic of lakes at Plitvice.

I come from Croatia.
Even I shoot 50mm in 95% of time - for Venice and Croatia I also say +1 for wide angle lens.

Some of the places in Istria, Croatia worth visiting (not far from Venice):

Pula (famous for colosseum look like Arena en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pula_Arena)
Motovun (famous because of film festival www.motovunfilmfestival.com and best-preserved medieval fortress)
Grožnjan (very small and nice place - approximately twenty galleries and art atelier, and also summer international film school)
Poreč (Euphrasian Basilica - UNESCO World Heritage)
Hum – Buzet (Guinness World Record holder for the smallest town in the world.)
Višnjan (Višnjan Observatory - www.astro.hr and wine)

When in Istria (my favorite part of Croatia) - rent a car, everything is close and in short driving distance.

My vote goes to 28mm for Venice.

I had shot with Zuiko 28mm f/3.5 for two days in Venice, some four years ago. You may carry a light tripod for evening shots at St.Marco.

Best would be to bring Rolleiflex and Nikon - and then every day bring one in walk, other camera stays in the hotel. On the place one can see what fits more for that specific day/occasion.

Visited Vienna couple of years ago as well as a few other European country's and brought the Rollie. There were a lot of times for wide angle use as well as longer lens and plenty of normal lens use, never ran out of things to shot with the normal lens so the Rollcord worked well.

For simplicity's sake, pick one system or the other. That will save you the headache of keeping an inventory of film for two different formats. If you do that, you inevitably run out of one or the other at an inconvenient time and place, and these days it's hard to find replacements of any kind most places. It's not like you can count on finding a neighborhood camera store with a stock of b/w 120 film, or even color negative 35mm...

I usually travel with my 4x5, but this is not a photo trip, it's more of a vacation and I plan on spending it relaxing. When I went to Iceland, I brought my F3 with the 50mm lens and aside from a few shots I couldn't get it worked out great. (I did take my 4x5 as well) In Germany I used my Rolleiflex and was equally happy. I know I will need something wide for Venice, It seems that in Croatia I can get by with a "standard lens". I'll be in the countryside in Slovenia and in Hungary I'll be in Budapest. I use my Rolleiflex all the time in NYC and the focal length works great for me in the city.

The other option is to pick up a Fuji 6x9 with a wide/semi-wide for landscapes and Venice. Common film format if I bring the Rolleiflex.

Too many decisions I still have two months to figure this all out.
