Well, after weeks of careful consideration, I have arrived at a decision. As my predecessor before me, I going to step down as editor of Creative Image Maker effective April 15th, 2010. I will get the Spring quarterly out of the barn and then move along.
Reasons: Well, first and foremost, my personal work is sorely lacking. Being a father of two and working a full-time job besides, my spare time is at a premium and most of it is gladly spent putting together CIM for our faithful readers. I spent all day Saturday looking at other photographers' work and slowly it dawned on me that I needed to join their ranks as an ACTIVE photographer. The driving emotion behind this choice is one of liberation. I know that CIM is a great thing. I know that if it is to live on and grow then it will. If not, then it was good while it lasted.
Prearations: Well, there are none at present. This is the first announcement and there have been no discussions with anyone about taking over the magazine. Just as with David Vickers, I simply must move on. And as with David I hope someone will step in and take the reins. If so, great. They would receive all of the files. There are a lot. If not then CIM will simply cease to exist and others will pick up where we have left off.
I realize that this comes on the eve of releasing paper magazines for the first time but I am happy with my decision. And I have absolutely NO regrets in doing so.
If anyone would like to 'take up the reins' then let me know and it will be yours. You will have a lot of great photographers at your disposal and a couple of past editors who may pop in from time to time and offer words of wisdom and kick an article or two your way.
So, that's it. Thanks everybody.
