FX 55 got initial publicity as a way of preserving ascorbate, but noticing it seemed to have a low pH I measured the pH of the working solution from post 4 below as 8.3 +/- 0.1 which is about the lowest for an acutance developer so I decided to test it for granularity:

Half a roll of 35mm Delta 100 was developed in Pyrocat HD 1:1:100 and the other half in FX 55 glycol as per post 4.
The magnified attachments of the letters represent about 1mm across on the negatives.
FX 55 glycol seems to compete pretty well with Pyrocat HD for those who have the time and skills to brew it.
I did not test the usual form of FX 55 that involves adding the dry sodium ascorbate powder etc
The darker attachment is from Pyrocat HD.
