A new video published by Steidl with Robert Adams, Gerhard Steidl, and Joshua Chuang discussing the four latest Robert Adams's books.

It's a little tough to hear Adams talk about his failing eyesight and difficulty walking, and there is a solemn scene in which Adams shows Gerhard Steidl his now disassembled darkroom. But, as Adams says in the video, every story has a beginning and an end.

Definitely worth watching for anyone with even a passing interest in the photography of Robert Adams.

The duality of what he and I were doing in the '70's in the region of the Colorado plains stays at the forefront of what drives me to continue to pursue these photographic adventures to this day.

Yes it's sad. But what a genius like Adams leaves behind is what counts.

I so wish I had discovered Adams two or three decades ago. I still feel privileged to have lived overlapping his lifetime.

Great video, thanks for posing! I followed Adams since the 1980s but his work has been somewhat hard to see. Looks like three great books to buy, assuming I can find them for sale.

ic-racer (and anyone else), you might look for a copy of "American Silence", published last year by Aperture.
It is the exhibition catalogue from his retrospective at the National Gallery of Art. Comprehensive (I think) and just beautifully done.

It's still in print and available from Aperture:

Several other Adams books are still available from Steidl, including all of the ones shown in the 'Countless Miles' video above:

Steidl's first printing of "Summer Nights, Walking" is actually already sold out. I am glad that I didn't hesitate when first announced.
They do write "Comming Soon" so a second printing is planned, but with Steidl, one never knows.

It is my impression that his press is constantly booked with projects, and since this book is quad tone printed on very difficult paper (the uncoated but titanium oxide treated paper he talks about) it probably takes a lot of time at the press to get right.

BTW - I know for a fact that it is a challenging print because I had to return two samples due to too many small imperfections in photographs with areas that was supposed to be pitch-black - so I did have a conversation back and forth with the publisher.
If everybody else did like me, then the 3000 prints was suddenly only 1000 - and then I understand why it sold out so quickly.

I noticed that too, but the book has also been included in a four-book bundle which is still available:
