Prompted by the lack of responses amd visual examples in a recent thread I thought I'd start another.

Consider;
What method of capture was used for the attached image?

What is lacking in this image?

If digital, what could/would/should/might make it better?

If analogue, what could/would/should/might make it better?

Opinions, comments, obseravtions. Please.

Q1) I can't tell nor do I care.

Q2) An interesting subject would be my subjective answer.

Q3-Q4) Both are irrelevant based on answer to Q1). If you are looking for an artistic critique ask yourself to place yourself in the viewers position. If you were a viewer looking at the image what would motivate you to look at it for a lengthy amount of time. From an artistic point of view how can you or should you abstract the image. As is it's pretty humdrum and boring.

My comments are made with no malice.

Ciao Ray,

Well, without being able to pixel peep I don't know how this image was created. About the only thing I can determine is that the pitcher ( if that's what he is called in cricket ) is left handed.

If I had to fathom a guess, I would say it is a digital image. I would think the oof was carefully crafted with considerable PS skills in creating layer masks.

If this is a scan, then your skills at scanning and color correction far exceed mine.

As far as the image goes, I like it and would not change it.

My personal view on Q2 is that the point of focus is in the worng place. I would liked to have seen the batsman in sharp focus and the bowler thrown out of focus. The bowler depicts effort and force which isn't aided by sharpness. The batsman should depict concentration and precision which needs sharpness.

One thing I am sure about is this will cause a disagreement.

Hi

Ciao Ray,

it appears to have been taken with a Nikon D200

me too ... its a great shot with great timing

The light however doesn't really press the limits of the capture media so I'd feel that digital would be perfect for that

its also a nice easy light to colour correct for so again easy for either media.

Let me turn this around ...
Most important: what were you trying to achieve with this image?
To what degree do you think you were successful?
How would knowing any of the technical details alter a viewer's perception?

Don, as a moderator of this site, and it's representative, I find it rude and inappropriate to give the response you did. Your response does not invite viewers to sign up, join in, and contribute.

Does the owner of HybridPhoto or APUG know that you give such flippant responses?

By the way Ray, I loved your shot. I get it. I can't think of anything I'd change.

Bummer, I'll try to do better from now on.

BTW, irrelevant but: Do people absolutely require the convenience of knowing they're definitely going to be flattered, in order to post something? Even the thought of it makes me sick... (puke)
