Costly Bags

I've been looking around for a better bag for my M2 and M4 and this one was suggested by several different people. It seems a mite expensive for what it is; however, and it would be hard to justify that cost. I mean, a bag's a bag.

It might be worth of it in long run. But manufacturer name and model name is cheap. Fake Rollex attitude.
I have Tarmac bag of same size. For three or more years now. It it brakes, I'll go with Domke.

It is a lot of money for a day bag. You can only use it for one day. I do not see the point when there are real camera bags that can be used for one day and cost a whole lot less money.

Do you think a man of my integrity who drives a restored 1964 Jaguar Sedan MK II, owns two Leica rangefinders with assorted lens would even drive to the parking lot of a place like Family Dollar? Wal-Mart, now that's another story. Beat you to the punch, I already have a cooler bag but that's for my Dom Perignon '55.

I've used a K-mart cooler bag for 17-18 years. I prefer Dollar stores - you don't have to dress up like you do at Walmart.

I bought one of these a few month ago, and love it. I can carry two RF cameras and film, etc without problem. Plus, it's very inconspicuous. And you can squeeze an iPad in the back pocket if you want. (And no, I am not affiliated with the manufacturer. I just really like the bag)

I of course, was teasing about the Jag. That was my car to lust for in high school(1964)...still want one. Back in the 80's I had a restored(mostly by me) '73 340 Cuda-beautiful car with everything under the hood new down to the upper/lower radiator hoses and new Weiand Action Series manifold, Holly 650 cfm carb and TRW forged pistons, etc.

I think I'm going to go with the Think Tank Retrospective 5 bag. Read some good reports, about the size and weight I'm looking for.

That "Cuda was a piece of work. Nothing under the hood that wasn't new. Clevite 77 rod and main bearings, new cam, cam bearings, valves and springs, bored out cylinder walls .020" over, new master cylinder...I can't recall all I did. I sure loved that car.

Dat 'Cuda is sweet.
To my tastes, the Think Tank gear looks expensive, but having gone w/ the Lowepro, it looks less overpriced now. A $15 OpTech is serving well for the Retina & the Ikonta, though I usually resort to the 1x1x1/2" selenium cell for a meter.
My brief fling was a 74 Ford - made in italy. At the time, LAPD didn't have a copter that fast.

I gave exactly such a bag to the charity shop last year. It was faux leather but otherwise precisely as you describe. Yellow felt interior and matching dividers with a lockable clasp. Undoubtedly pretty, but an instrument of torture to carry for any length of time. It came full of Canon prime lenses for some absurdly small sum, in that brief period between film being dead and living exotica. (c2007 - 2010)

I kept the 'Cuda two years and drove it almost daily. We had a RIF(reduction in force) at work and our entire group was laid off. After a year of unemployment...maybe a bit longer, I had to end up selling it-broke my heart after all that work. I swore I'd never attempt to restore any car again. That was 1990 and I haven't since.

As for the bag, I'm looking hard at the Think Tank bag...seems to get a lot of accolades.

FWIW, I got a free large laptop bag (large laptop computers are 'out' these days) that can hold three 11x14 film holders and my light meter. Sweet.

That's not a bag for your Leica, that's a statement. It does, however, allow you to say "please pass the Grey Poupon" with an accent.

Now this is a bag. Mine was $10, but it does require a bit of customization (repurposed usps box and 2 padded lens cases inside, velcro added to flap). Of course mine just holds a lowly Canon P.

Without the slots the hood would block the viewfinder.
The slots don't let light get in the lens.

Carrying Leica's in a Walmart cooler....?? Egad.

Domke's F5-XB bag is perfect for two Leica's...I carry a Leica/40mm and a Rolleiflex.
It's canvas and great quality.

I have had that bag for nearly 8 years and even though I have at least three other bags I can and do use for Leica including an incredibly ratty Dome F5X, the AA bag is by far my favorite. It is very well made, does not scream expensive camera bag like a Billingham does and carries really well. I think I even paid more than that for mine and it was worth every penny. I did remove the flashy pull on the front zipper and cut out the foam on either end of the insert so I can get the cameras in and out easier.

I like it so much that I got the next size up for corporate jobs in that need to carry an SLR with some primes and want to up the whole look to fit the scene. My second favorite for Leica is the deeper but somewhat stiffer Domke F-803 Satchel, it travels well and you can use the rings on the sides to attach a belt if riding horseback or some other potentially rowdy activity.

And cars, I drive a highly aftermarket tuned late model Audi S4 and a 405HP supercharged 2005 Toyota Tacoma with a lightweight aluminum solar powered camper on it...
