Cost of processing 120 color film?

Hello,

I was wondering what you all pay to get 120 color film (C41) processed. I haven't looked into it yet at the lab I usually go to, but I figured I'd get an idea of price range from you guys here at APUG, any feedback is certainly appreciated : )

I just checked my labs website.. its only 4.95 for C41 and 5.00 for E6! Such a deal.. I <3 120!!!

You Guys are lucky---my local lab sent me an X-Mas card letting me know they will no longer be processing film---the only other lab I know of locally get fingerprints everywhere--I'll be Jobo-ing my own I guess full time now!!

Quality processing for C-41 with proof prints isn't cheap anymore. I use A&I in Hollywood. Not the cheapest, nor the most expensive. They do good work. Pre paid mailers are available from B&H. E-6, too. I've never had a scratched slide from A&I. Check out - http://www.aandi.com

I get C41 6X7 120 film processed with a set of proofs for $8.80, $12.60 for doubles. E6 120 is $5.35 with a 24 hour turnaround, $5.90 for a 2 hour turnaround. This is from Reed Photo Imaging in Denver. http://reedphoto.com/

In amateur labs, usually about 50 per cent more than 35mm. In pro labs, usually about the same.

If you aren't afraid of shipping things, you might contact Dwaynes in Parson's KS. I've only done one roll of Kodachrome (they are the only ones left in the US as I understand it). But they did a good job, reasonable price (for Kodachrome) and I've heard nothing but good things about them in general.

hello,
i use sams club. my local store (kingston ny) does it in house for me in 20 min and they charge 1.56 USD! if i send it out through them it is 50 CENTS! how is that?

i send my E 6 out with them, takes one week and costs me 4.28 USD!

i also have a lab in thailand that i send my stuff for processing and burning to CD at hi res! (i get the whole roll of 120 processed and burned for $10 for E6 and $5 for c41. i make up to 24x30 prints with these scans.)

Ask others for their experiences first, but Dwayne's pricing for 120 with 4x4 proof prints is less than I can get locally (upstate NY) for develop only, as long as I send a few rolls to make the shipping worthwhile. Therefore, I'm stocking a few rolls of 120 to send to them on a trial run.

My (indirect) experience with them has been fine. I sent some print-film out through a local store, and it came back with labels indicating Dwayne's had processed it. Decent color, no scratches or fingerprints. They didn't fix my compositions, but nobody does everything.

My local store did a roll of 120 for me. $8.91 for development, 8 prints, and tax. And they didn't lose the 620 spool it came on too!

Duggal in New York charges $7 for a roll of 120, $8 for a roll of 35mm C-41 film processing, and $9 for a contact sheet.

I pay $4 for processing, and .40 each for 4x5 proofs ($8 for 10 6x7 frames). They throw in a free index card if I pay for processing with proofs (they charge $2 for the index card if I get processing only without prints).

Well, they can't be all that hi res if a whole roll fits on a single CD. When I scan film for a 24x30 print, I get a TIF file thats over 500 mb. If I compressed to jpg, I could get 2 or 3 images on a CD.

hhhhmmmmm? maybe i am not so familiar with hi res, but please come by and see the prints on my wall.

A drugstore chain here in Germany: exactly 2.28 Euros. No prints or contact sheets, though, but high quality, no scratches, no gunk, and they put them into nice sleeves too.

This thread is killing me !

Here in France, I have no other choice than a pro-lab, and get 120 processing C41 (without prints) for Euros 5.40 (almost $7.00 !), or processing plus twelve 13x13cm reading prints for Euros 15.00 ($19.5).

I tried "common" lab for 120 processing, and will probably never do it again : endless delay, ripping off prices, and scratches on negative and prints !!!

I am stuned when my European fellows obtain same processing for a mere € 2.28 !

Seriously, 6.40 is a pretty good price for a pro lab service.

You could do your own processing; with a Jobo processor, it is easy.

You might as well find a well-run minilab, they can always process 120.

The same? Not at all, my friend - I don't get the scratches and delays.

Sorry to hear that, Raphael. Don't give up, the first "common" lab I tried was at Kaufland and I received the film over one week later in terrible condition, scratches, blotches, finger prints, what have you. I thought they basically go all to one of the two big labs here in Germany, but there seems to be some diversity still.

I have been using a local lab at La Canada Camera (So. California). They do a good job and charge about $10.80 for C-41 processing and 12 5x5 in. prints. I think for processing alone its around $4. If anyone would like their address to send a roll to, you can e-mail me and I will provide.

I was wondering why anyone would use a scan to make a 20x24 enlargement. when you have the negative and make a conventional enlargement? The 120 neg has to have much more resolution than the scan. Maybe just for convenience because traditional labs with actual enlargers may be harder to find these days? Just wondering.

Sure, but here, I have more and more difficulties to find a reliable lab (other than pro-), even for the straightforward C41 processing of a 35mm film ! In those days, when I find such a "lab", they always finish to change their delay, their subcontractor, their price and quality. In effect, here in my region, there is less and less minilabs, other those who shot easily digital image files...

Yes, I plan to do so I get a CPA Jobo Processor, and tested it with B&W only film processing , for the moment. But I will try E6 processing first, it seems to be a little more easy for me. And I am a little reluctant to garbage film and hard to find chemicals in first tests. Maybe I should ask to a friend who is well informed about it to help me for the first rolls, and dig in APUG archives forum
