Perhaps some Zuikophiles among us might be able to help me. I've just taken happy possession of a mint OM-System 50mm f/1.4 lens that unfortunately is missing its lens hood. A check on eBay shows a number of listings for a hard rubber clamp-on hood for the 50/1.4, 50/1.8, and 35/2.8. I was ready to buy when I noticed a couple vendors selling a metal hood for a similar set of lenses. Now I'm confused as to which hood is the "correct" one for my lens? In case it matters, my lens is a late-production model with serial number > 1.1 million.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Confirmed the rubber and metal hoods are similar in form.
You would need a vernier calliper to separate them.
But they are both clamp on and a generic screw in hood may be more practical, to avoid loss.

A virtual beverage to all of you--thanks! I will purchase a rubber lens hood since it appears to be the appropriate one for my lens.

Thanks for pointing this out. I thought of this and may in fact decide to use a screw-in hood for day-to-day use but I just wanted to make sure I had a complete set of OEM accessories for this lens.

Clamp on hoods can be attached and removed without dealing in any way with filters that you may wish to use as well.

A lens hood is a lens hood... As long as it fit the right f.l. and get the appropriate thread diameter, who cares?

I own a mundane rubber hood for 50mm lens with 49mm thread. I use it with several lenses being Zuiko or not (KMZ, CZJ or Meyer) and I never asked myself if using an "OEM" hood would bring any added value...

If ones kit includes more than a few lenses they may find the information on the OEM hood to be useful. Some hoods are difficult to replicate, such as the 18mm, 21mm f2. 90mm f2/135mm f4.5 macro and the 28-48mm to name a few. Bill "Who has too many lenses" Barber

Some generic clip in lens caps come with laynards which are just looped on which can be removed and attached to the hoods attachment screw head.

But the 5cm hoods are well available.
