I purchased a lens/shutter but discovered that it has an oddball Wista Copal 0 press shutter that has an extended piece on the shutter which prevents it mounting on a standard Copal zero sized lens board. Part of me thinks that piece should screw off but it doesn’t want to and I have applied a reasonable amount of force. Wondering if anyone has any experience with one of these and any advice.

That extended bit is part of an extended Wista or Horseman (80mm) lens board. That ring can simply be unscrewed and substituted with a conventional retaining ring. The lens can then be mounted on a regular lens board.

Helpful bit of advice with Copal Press shutters:

One cable release socket is for preview/composing, and will open the shutter/aperture to max. It's basically "Bulb" mode at max aperture. The other socket will trip your shutter normally.

Don't get them backwards. It's embarrassing.
