Hey all

We've recently invested in a beautiful Cooke Series SVa convertible lens for our 10x8 field camera kit at work. Being able to remove the front and rear cells to change the focal length is super flexible, but is it possible to replace a cell with a protection filter, screwed straight onto the shutter, in order to protect the shutter / aperture blades? I'm a bit nervous about sending students out into the wild with exposed inner workings...

Many thanks in advance!
Tom.

Possible, yes. But you may have to get a custom adaptor ring made if your shutter is smaller than a #3. A Copal #3 uses a 58mmx0.75mm thread front and back, so a standard filter ring should screw straight in.

According to Cooke themselves:

Filter Size - Shutter Front 62mm screw in Gold Ring So the answer is yes. It appears that the Copal is modified. It's the same thread as the rear cell filter ring.

A glass-filter behind the cell should be more critical than in front of it.
