A couple of years ago i received a copy of Kevin Fleming's 'The Heart Of America'. Now, Kevin is a Delaware photographer. There is a two page spread of a field of sunflowers and a yellow biplane cropduster coming up out of it directly at the camera/photographer. I know instantly that the pilot must be Allen Chorman, a customer of mine. The next time he came in I inquired about the photograph and he identified himself as the pilot. On recalling the day, they made four passes for the shot and when they reunited afterwards, Kevin told Allen he had gotten awfully close on the last pass. Allen told replied 'What? I missed you by three feet.'
This morning on WGMD, local talk radio, the host, Dan Gaffeney, was interviewing Kevin Fleming about some of his recent books at a local bookstore and they took some calls. I got on and asked him to recall the shoot and about Allen's remarks to me. Kevin replied 'It was more like two feet.'
I love it.
