Here is some information on the exhibit from the above link:
Contemporary North Carolina Photography from the Museums Collection
First rotation: September 3November 5, 2006
Second rotation: November 19, 2006February 11, 2007
"In 2003, realizing the ever-increasing importance of photography in contemporary art, as well as the mediums strength among the artists in our state, the North Carolina Museum of Art embarked on building a significant contemporary photography collection. Museum curators decided that the foundation of this new collection would begin with works by contemporary photographers in North Carolina who are creating images with subjects and styles reflective of the major movements in national and international photography.
To date, the Museum has acquired 105 works by 10 photographers living and working in North Carolina today. All of these works will be shown in this two-part exhibition (half of the newly acquired photographs will be on view September 3 November 5, 2006, and the other half will be shown November 19, 2006 February 11, 2007)."
I saw the photos last weekend and generally speaking was not disappointed with their selection of images.
Two items of note on the exhibition.
1. The "Monet in Normandy" exhibit opens this week. There is an admission fee for the Monet exhibit. The photography exhibit is free. The museum parking lot will be crowded.
2. The NCMA is acquiring photographic work, but don't get too excited all you Tar Heel photographers. From what I have heard, the acquisition process is on a "Don't call us, we'll call you" basis.
