If you're interested in understanding and experiencing photography at a mindful level and doing it in one of the beautiful places in the world, then this workshop is for you. If you have read, or listened to speakers talk about mindfulness and contemplation in relationship to photography and been baffled by the language, then this is where you want to be the last week of September 2018. We'll learn in a practical way how to connect with what you're photographing at an emotional level; and we'll take what we learn into the fields (and towns and villages) and practice it. And we'll look at work by some of the greats, and explore and learn why the images affect us, why the images reach beyond being nice pictures.
The workshop not only includes all local transportation, but also accommodations in a thousand year-old monastery (refurbished), and world class Italian food and wine. There are daily trips into the villages, towns, and countryside to practice and make photographs.
This will be a small group with less than 10 participants, as much of the learning will be from our discussions in the group and individually when we're out. While we're out in the villages I'll be working individually with each photographer to help you understand how to see yourself as something much more than a picture taker; how to see yourself as one of the dimensions of the photograph; how your experience in making each photograph, in connecting with the subject gets imbedded in the emotional content of the picture.
About the only thing you add is your transportation to and from Florence, Italy; and some lunches along the way during our daily excursions.
The workshop is equipment agnostic. Bring whatever camera you are most comfortable using; the one you don't have to think about when you're photographing.
And since you'll already be in Italy, many people stay another week or two, or arrive early and enjoy some of the many other aspects of Italy and its marvelous culture and history.
There are still openings!!
